Supporting Children with Cancer - by Sarah Hirini

This is me watching a video-clip in class about a 13-year-old girl who spoke at the United Nations Delegates' conference on the topic of adults taking responsibility for the global problems that have been created through the greed of a few countries.

The theme of m y Inquiry-Action project is based on my desire to be a big sister for children who have cancer. I want to find out more about the agencies that help children and families going through this difficult experience and how to support those who care for these children. I am interested in this area because someone in my family went through this and I felt powerless to help them. This is one way I can be of use, not just to the children but also to those wonderful people who work so hard to help them. I don't know what I will do to help out yet because I am still carrying out an investigation into who is available and where morehelp is needed. I expect to make a useful contribution though, even if it only means I visit children whose families can't get to see them. I could read to them and chat about things they're interested in and make them laugh, because I know that laughing helps people heal.
