Imagine a room full of about 50 students from 7 different primary schools around the Whakatane, Edgecumbe, Kawerau region! That's what we faced when we helped out with the 1-day Learning Retreat held at Edgecumbe Primary School. The purpose of this Retreat was to bring kids of 'like-mind' and 'like-ability' together so they could enjoy extending their thinking while developing their social skills. The event was a great way to kick off Gifted Awareness Week 2010 and also provided students from Edgecumbe College with a terrific opportunity to show real leadership and to be role models. We were also happy to help develop and run some of the activities because we've been involved in several secondary level Learning Retreats and know how good they are. By the way, the primary kids were amazing - they engaged in all the activities and were really well-behaved. Phew!
